Nortel Network Community Volunteers
One of The In Community's partners for SNEES is with the Nortel Networks Community Volunteers – Ottawa Retirees Club. This group of retirees develop and build various assistive devices for persons with disabilities. The catalog of available items that they build are listed below and are available through SNEES.
Our SNEES program along with the Nortel Networks Community Volunteers – Ottawa Retirees Club do not receive core funding, and as a result, rely upon the generosity of donations to operate this program. Therefore, please contact our office to ensure availability of item.
Doorway Wedge Ramp
This ramp is utilized to navigate over low obstaclessuch as a doorway threshold.
Features:
- Standard ramp is 30” W x 6” D x 1 ½ “” H. (Special orders can be accommodated upon request.)
- Ramps are constructed of ¾ “ plywood, with pine wedges and finished with varnish.
Transfer Disk
This device is used to aid caregivers in transferring a weight bearing client from one position to another. (example wheelchair to bed.)
Features:
- One outside surface is covered with vinyl matting while the other is covered with carpeting;
- A handle is attached, to aid in positioning and handling of the device.
Light Weight Adjustable Easel
The design of this lightweight easel provides an inclined work surface to be used on a tabletop or desktop.

Via a cutout, this table provides easy access to a tabletop surface for users of mobility devices.
Features:
- Height adjusted legs. (Legs are adjusted by sliding moveable portions which are slotted over carriage bolts provided with hand nuts.)
- Three sides of the tabletop are provided with a lip to prevent articles from falling off.

Adjustable Wood Seat (CHILDREN'S PRODUCT)
This chair is designed for children needing support customized to their size, and adjustable to their growth. (no picutre available)
Features:
- Seat measures approximately 11" x 11" and a back height of 13".
- Overall height, from floor to seat, can be adjusted.
- Footrests are adjustable.
Rolling Stool (CHILDREN'S PRODUCT)
Stools are used by care givers working at a low level with young children, to avoid constantly getting up and down.
Features:
- 14" diameter seating surface.
- Four casters, either free moving or locking type.
- Height of the seating surface can be provided from about 7" to 17".
Fine Motor Skills Device (CHILDREN'S PRODUCT)
This simple peg game was made at the request of a pediatric physiotherapist at the Ottawa Children's Treatment Centre. It is used to develop fine motor skills in children.

- Different sized pegs for children of various ages.
Conductive Educational Plinth Table (CHILDREN'S PRODUCT)
The plinth table is used in Conductive Education programs.
Features:
- This slatted top table provides a 30” x 60” surface
- Height adjusted legs.
- Detachable handle fastens into slots on the plinth table.
- Selected lumber is carefully finished and varnished to ensure a smooth grasping surface.
