CLARENCE SITE

HR

General Description:

Located on the western fringe of the market area in downtown Ottawa , Clarence is owned and operated by Centretown Citizens of Ottawa Corporation (CCOC), a non-profit housing provider. Built in 1993, Clarence Street is a four storey building with an accessible outdoor terrace. These apartments were designed and built as accessible units.

Front Entrance:

The front entrance has two sets of double doors. Each door has a clear opening of 34 inches. Each set of doors has an automatic door opener. The exterior doors are not locked and are operated by a large paddle located on the wall to the left of the doors as you enter or by remote control (see arrow).

The second set of doors is locked but can be operated by the automatic door opening device. (Please see Photo 3).

Parking Garage Entrance:

The underneath entrance to the building from the parking garage is shown in Photo 4 above. There are two doors, each with an automatic door opener and a clear opening of 32 inches. The large paddle that operates the outer door is located on the wall to the right of the door (see arrow). As is the case with the front entrance, the interior door (shown in Photo 5) can be opened with an automatic door opener.

Elevators

There are two elevators in the building. Each elevator is equipped with an accessible control panel and has floor dimensions of 52 X 69 inches.

Hallways and Doors

Hallways are wide with good lighting.  Doors leading into appartment units have a clear opening of 33 inches.

Apartment Units

The apartment units at Clarence St. are not identical to the unit shown in these photos. There are different apartment layouts depending on the unit. These diagrams are intended to illustrate general apartment features. For those that require it, a ceiling track system is available. All accessible units come with an automatic door opening device for their individual apartment.

Floor plan

Please note this floor plan reflects a unit that is the mirror image of the apartment in which the photos were taken. It also shows a bathtub in the bathroom. (Many of the units have roll-in showers in their accessible units.) As indicated in the diagram, this is a sample floor plan only, some units may differ slightly.

Kitchen

The clear floor space in the kitchen is approximately 70 X 108 inches. The counters are 33 inches high. As Photo 9 illustrates, there are no cupboards below the counter on the sink side of the kitchen. The arrows indicate the location of electrical outlets along the front edge of the counters.

The entranceway to the kitchen is off the main hallway and is 48 inches wide. There is a “pass through” between the kitchen and the living/dining room. Photo 11 is a view of the kitchen from the living/dining room.

Bathroom

The bathroom is equipped with a roll in shower shown in Photo 14 and has sufficient clear floor space to allow maneuverability for most individuals in wheelchairs. There is no vanity beneath the sink therefore increasing access to this area.

Living Room                                                                         Bedroom

There is an accessible balcony off of the living room as shown in Photo 15. The bedroom has a large window as can be seen in Photo 16.
