General Description:
The Richmond location of The In Community's housing program is a high rise apartment building that is part of the Britannia by the Bay complex owned by Realstar Management. It is located within walking distance of Lincoln Fields Shopping Centre and the bike paths along the Western Parkway , Richmond Road offers convenience and pleasant surroundings.
Front Entrance
There are no steps at the front entrance to the building and the double doors have an automatic door opener operated by a motion detector which opens the door as one approaches the building from the left. The doors have a clear opening of 31½ inches.
Elevators
There are two side-by-side elevators serving the building. Although the elevator doors and interiors are large enough to accommodate most people in wheelchairs the call buttons and control panels are higher than recommended for barrier free access. The doors have a clear opening of 36 inches and door closing sensors.
Hallways
The
clear opening of the apartment doors is 33 inches. The majority of apartments
are equipped with automatic door openers that are opened with the same
remote control which operates the front door. Clients can purchase a remote
to operate the front door and their individual apartment door.
Apartment Units
The apartment units at Richmond Road are not all identical to the unit shown in these photos. There are different apartment layouts depending on the unit. These are intended to illustrate the general features. For those that require it, a ceiling track system and automatic door opening device are available.

Kitchen
The galley-style kitchen has an entrance with a clear opening of 33 inches. As Photo 6 illustrates, it is narrow and may not provide sufficient maneuverability space to allow most individuals in a wheelchair to use independently. The clear floor space is approximately 101 X 41 inches. The counter is 36 inches high.
Bathroom
As Photo 8 illustrates, the bathroom is narrow and may not provide sufficient maneuverability space to allow most individuals in a wheelchair to use independently. The clear opening of the door is 32 inches. As the photo illustrates, this bathroom also has a vanity under the sink and standard fixtures.
