General Description

 

Daly Co-operative is a seven storey brick building located at 2410 Southvale Crescent off of St. Laurent Boulevard . Located in a residential area in the southeast part of Ottawa , Daly Co-op is a 5 minute walk from the Elmvale Shopping Centre and a 10 minute bus ride from the St-Laurent Shopping Centre and Heron Gate Mall. Also nearby is a daycare, schools, parks, the Museum of Science and Technology and a fitness centre. There are 88 apartment units in the building including 1, 2 and 3 bedroom units. The building was designed to be accessible for tenants who use wheelchairs and also has a laundry room, bicycle storage room and a community hall. There is an outdoor sitting area and an accessible pathway allowing tenants to go from the front around to the back of the building.

 

 

 

Front Entrance

 

The main entrance is on Southvale Crescent and has a covered area in front of two sets of exterior and interior doors which lead into the first floor of the building. The doors have an automatic door opener operated by a paddle as shown in Photo 3 and an open clearance of 33 inches (838 mm). There is no lobby on this level of the building and the doors lead to central hallway and elevators.

 

 

 

Main Entrance

 

Though located at the back of the building the doors leading from the parking lot serve as the main entrance for residents. There is a covered drop off area in front of this entrance and two sets of exterior and interior doors leading into the main lobby of the building. The doors have an automatic door opener operated by a paddle as shown in Photo 5.

 


 

Lobby, Elevators and Doors

 

The main entrance leads into a large attractive lobby with couches and planters. Photo 6 shows the view to the right as you enter through the doors. The elevators are a few steps straight ahead on the left. At this point you are in the center of the building. There are offset central hallways leading in both directions from the main lobby. The doors leading into the hallways are left open and have a clear opening of 36 inches (914 mm). The doorway to the Community Hall (Paul Lamb Hall) is visible in Photo 6.

 

 

There are two side-by-side elevators serving the building. The door widths and clear floor space of the elevators provide access for people in wheelchairs and the controls meet accessibility standards.

 

 

The Laundry Room

 

The laundry room is located down the main hallway to the left as you enter the main entrance. There is ample clear floor space for individuals in wheelchairs to maneuver. As well there are two accessible work counters, one with a sink at the end of the room.

 

 

 

Apartment Units

 


This is the floor plan for the apartment described in the following pages. It is a 2 bedroom unit. Some of the supported living units are 1 bedroom apartments.

 

Entranceway

 

The door into the apartment is equipped with an automatic door opener and has a clear opening of 33 inches (838 mm). There is a clothes closet on the left and a storage room to the right behind sliding doors.

 

 

Kitchen

 

The kitchen is galley style with 33 inch high counters, a counter top stove and built-in oven. Clear floor space is large enough to allow a person in a wheelchair to do a complete circle in the kitchen. Faucets, electrical switches and power outlets are within easy reach. There is also a convenient pantry with adjustable shelves on the right side as you enter.

 

Bathroom

 

The door into the bathroom has a clear opening of 33 inches (838 mm) and there is sufficient clear floor space for an individual in a wheelchair to maneuver. The bathroom in this particular unit has a regular bathtub as opposed to a roll in shower as found in other bathrooms. The vanity counter height is 33 inches (838 mm) and the knee clearance beneath the sink is 27 inches (686 mm).

 


Living/Dining Room

 

The living / dining room are shown in photos 15 and 16.

Other

 

  • Individuals who reside in this location will be responsible to complete a separate application by the Co-operative. Clients will become members of the Co-operative and as a group are mandated to participate in co-op activities.
  • Some rent supplements are available for those individuals that qualify through the Co-operative.
  • Heat & Hydro are not included in the rent.
  • Shared laundry facilities are available on the first floor. Not all washers and dryers are accessible. Staff assistance is available for those as required.
  • Air conditioning is not available in the units. Client would be responsible to acquire and install their own units.
