Luc Polnicky

President

Member, Marketing  & Communications and Selection Committees

Luc first became a volunteer with the Selection Committee in 1993 and joined the Board in 2005. A social worker and advocate for social policies for the disabled population, Luc brings his considerable knowledge and experience to the position of Vice President of the Board, one that he has held since 2007. In 2008, Luc published his autobiography “ Nager à contre-courant”.

 

 

Wayne McIntyre

Vice President

Wayne returned to the board in 2008.  Over the past 10 years, Wayne had provided leadership and strategic direction to many volunteer boards of not-for-profit organizations.

 

 

Wendy Duross

Past- President

Chair, Human Resources Committee, NRD Committee

 

Wendy, an experienced human resources practitioner, became a member of the Board of Directors in 1995 and held that position until 2000. She rejoined the Board in 2004 and now serves as its President. In recognition of her volunteer work, Wendy received a United Way Community Builder Award in 2007.


 

John Lees

Secretary/Treasurer

John is President of Orbis Risk Consulting, an Ottawa based management consulting firm. He is a Chartered Accountant and graduate of the University of Ottawa. John's interest in expanding opportunities for individuals with disabilities stems from his experience as a father of a child with several physical disabilities.

 

 

William Allen

Director and Executive Member

Chair, Marketing Communications Committee

William joined the Board in 2004 and provides volunteer leadership to the agency's Communications and Marketing efforts. He brings to The In Community thirty years of leadership, expertise and experience in the field of strategic communications including the development and implementation of all aspects of marketing/communications plans and media, government and public relations.


Randy Romain

Director and Executive Member

Randy has spent the last 15 years advocating for the rights of individuals with physical disabilities. He first served as a member of the Board from 2001 to 2004, returning in 2007. In 2004 Randy was honoured with a Community Builder Award from the United Way.

 


Board Members

 

Dennis Brodie

Director

 

Dennis works for the Public Health Agency of Canada as a Special Advisor in the Centre for Emergency Preparedness and Response. He is currently responsible for implementing the International Health Regulations in Canada.  Previously, he led the development of Canada's new Quarantine Act.

Dennis has a law degree from the University of Ottawa and previously was a hospital administrator in Alberta.

This year, Dennis is the recipient of Public Health Agency of Canada's Annual Award for Excellence in Public Health.

 

Barbara Burns

Director

Barbara has served on both the Board of Directors and the Selection Committee.  As a retired social worker and nurse her experience and interest lies with the elderly and their families.  Currently she also sits on the Elder Abuse Consultation team at the Council on Aging and the board of the Churchill Seniors Centre. We welcome her back the board this year.

 

Carolyn James

Director

Carolyn is a physiotherapist. She trained at McMaster University, graduating in 1988. She worked in hospitals and private practice before pursuing a Masters degree in Injury Prevention (ergonomics).

Carolyn is bringing to the In Community Board of Directors her experience in working with a wide variety of populations within the community, extensive knowledge of health and safety as well as her clinical knowledge as a physiotherapist. Additionally, she brings enthusiasm for fairness and equal opportunity for every member of our society.

 

Barb MacCallum

Director

We are pleased to have Barb return to the Board of Directors in 2011.

Barbara is the Chief Executive Officer of the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association. She has over 30 years of experience in administration, business development, computer software development, and career development. She is also the president of the Canadian Career Development Foundation. Barb has a degree in Computer Science and Mathematics from the University of Waterloo.

 

Brian Moretton

Director

 

Brian joined the Board in September 2008. He has been a member of the Housing Committee since 1998 and is a former client of The In Community's Integrated Housing Program.

Tammy Culhane

Tammy rejoined the Board in 2010.  She has lived in The In Community's Supportive Housing program for 20 years and was a former tenant representative.  She also sits on the Parkway House Board of Directors.  Likes advocating for disability rights.

 

Rachel Derks

A client of The In Community's Supportive Housing program since 1993, allowing her to live independently. Since moving to Ottawa Rachel has had the opportunity to volunteer in various fields of interest. She plans on using this opportunity to do two things; to preserve the attendant care service the way it is now, and to come up with new ideas for improvement.
