On behalf of all of us at The In Community, I have the distinct pleasure of announcing that Teena Tomlinson, Executive Director, is the recipient of the Ontario March of Dimes Judge George Ferguson Award for Full Participation and Equality which recognizes truly distinguished contributions to the lives of people with disabilities.

Teena received the award September 23, 2011 in Toronto, at the Ontario March of Dimes 60th Anniversary AGM and Awards Celebration. The Judge George Ferguson Award recognizes Teena’s contribution in an outstanding way by enabling equality and full community participation for people with physical disabilities.

“The award, created in 1981, is bestowed annually to someone whose contribution has moved society forward toward inclusion of people with disabilities. This national Award captures the personal qualities and contributions of Justice Ferguson,” says March of Dimes Canada President and CEO, Andria Spindel. “We wouldn’t be the organization we are today were it not for him. He has been an integral part of March of Dimes since its inception and the legacy he leaves and the people he has helped is incalculable.”

The Honourable George S. P. Ferguson, Q.C. passed away on June 15, 2011.

We are truly honoured that Teena received this award in recognition of her leadership of The In Community in the development and delivery of programs and services that maximize opportunities for people with physical disabilities to be fully integrated in the community, achieve their full potential and realize their true capacity for independence.

Another proud moment for The In Community.

Congratulations Teena!
