We develop and deliver services and programs for seniors and people with physical disabilities, their families, service providers, organizations and the community. We provide:

Community Support

 

  • Individual Support: a comprehensive service available to seniors and adults with physical disabilities who need assistance to work through complex situations or multiple barriers to participation and inclusion

 

  • Life Skills Training: to assist individuals attain and maintain independence.

 

  • Support Groups: An opportunity for clients and/or care-givers to share experiences while supporting one another and exchanging concrete and specific approaches on coping.

 

  • Community Education including caregivers’ groups offering support, educational information and opportunities to connect with others.

 


 

Barrier-Free Environment (BFE) Services

These services assist individuals and organizations identify and eliminate barriers in existing or proposed facilities for people who use mobility equipment such as wheelchairs, scooters walkers or canes including:     

 

  • Assessments (on a fee for service basis)
  • Advice
  • Information Sheets

 


 

Special Needs Equipment Exchange Service (SNEES)

A program that recycles special needs equipment

 

  • Donated equipment is available free of charge to children, adults and seniors with disabilities.

 

  • Tax receipts may be issued for equipment with an appraised value of $50.00 or more. 

 


 

Short Term Accessible Accommodation

 

The In Community manages the only community based respite for adults with physical disabilities in Ottawa. These self-contained furnished apartments are available for rent on a short term basis to residents of and visitors to Ottawa. If required, on-site staff provide physical assistance with activities of daily living under the client's direction.

 

The units, located in a non-profit housing co-operative in the east end of Ottawa, may be reserved for a minimum stay of 2 days to a maximum stay of 60 days per calendar year.

 


 

Supportive Housing

 

The In Community operates the largest Supportive Housing Program in Eastern Ontario in six different locations. We provide a range of services encompassing the physical, psychological and social needs of our clients.

 

  • Clients live independently in an unsupervised environment, make their own decisions and are responsible for their affairs.

 

  • Clients access and direct non-medical staff to meet their physical care needs.

 

  • Based on individual care needs, services are provided in a residential setting or group home.

 

  • Rent subsidies may be available to those that qualify.

 

  • Applications are accepted on an on-going basis.
