The Resource Centre, located in the main lobby of The Rehabilitation Centre at 505 Smyth Road, is a partnership between the Rehabilitation Centre and The In Community.
Employees from The In Community and volunteers from Volunteer Services at The Rehabilitation Centre staff the Centre and are available to assist visitors with their information search.
The Centre provides information to people with physical disabilities, their families and the community at large. Membership is FREE and is required to borrow resources or to use the on-site computer. The centre houses books, brochures, videos, and other materials covering disability related topics including:
- Accommodation and Housing
How to search for specific types of housing for people with physical disabilities.
- Assistive Devices
Assistive Devices Program, incontinence supplies, specialized equipment, rentals, loan and second-hand equipment, repairs and modifications.
- Community Support Services
Meal delivery services, respite services, safety and emergency systems, food banks, special services, homecare services as well as visiting and delivery services.
- Counselling
Resources on abuse, addiction, counseling services, caregiver support, spirituality, support and self-help groups.
- Information on Specific Types of Disabilities
- Education and Training
Assessments for adaptive equipment, student services, scholarships and financial resources and options for literacy and numeracy training.
- Employment and Vocational Supports
Legislation, employment supports, employer supports, evaluations.
- Financial
Equipment, supplies & prescriptions, eviction prevention, income programs, income tax, rebate programs and renovations and modifications to home and vehicle.
- For Your Information
Adaptive clothing, ASL interpretation, medical advances, parenting, youth and sexuality.
- Legal
Consumer rights, landlord/tenant act, legal advice and mediation services, long-term care act, power of attorney.
- Recreation and Leisure
Team sports, individual leisure and recreation, day programs.
- Transportation and Travel
Accessible taxis, Para Transpo, medical transportation and travel.
